An individual’s experience of trauma impacts every area of their functioning. Trauma is a somatic reaction. Survivors may become aware of sensations in their bodies, but many times, while the body is busy trying to tell us that something is wrong, the mind is trying very hard to ignore that information, resulting in a general sense of Numb in all areas, physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.
